🫦 Slay Blood Sugar Spikes

A daily dose of quirky wellness news and trends delivered to your inbox

Happy High Noon (EST). Like we said yesterday, we read everything. Here is a comment from the vibe check poll:

"Awesome, but Gail sad! Gail can no longer call out lousy drivers w/ expletives!!!!??? That f×@kin' sucks for Gail! Seriously, great job today. Thanks"

Too funny and… never stop, Gail.

For context, find the headline, "How Third Person Talk Can Level Up Your Thinking," in yesterday's newsletter.

On to the headlines...

WOW Headlines:

There is a lot going on in the world of wellness (WOW) and it’s impossible to keep up. We searched the internet for interesting content and found our three favorites of the day.

Ready, set, go (insert Mario Kart start sound effect):

Protein-Powered Mornings: Slay Blood Sugar Spikes

Turns out, swapping your morning cereal for a protein-packed brekkie can do wonders for your blood sugar levels!

Basically, this study looked at how a high-protein breakfast affects your glucose levels throughout the day. And guess what? It found that having a protein-rich meal in the morning helps keep your blood sugars steady all the way until supper (or dinner, if you prefer).

But why should we care, you ask?

Well, think about those short-term effects of glucose spikes. They can totally mess with your head, leaving you feeling all foggy, cranky, and tired. Ain't nobody got time for that, right?

In the long run, continuous glucose spikes can actually put you at a higher risk of lifestyle-related diseases like:

  • Heart problems

  • High blood pressure

  • Obesity

And it's also a major cause of death in type 2 diabetes.

So taking charge of your blood sugar game is a key move for your overall health journey.

Let's say bye-bye to the cereal and get our protein fix tomorrow morning!

Undies A No-Go?

Do you wear underwear with your workout gear?

When I saw this topic trending on social, I was like, this is obvious.

The answer is no, right? It sounds like it’s more of a tossup…

I’ve always been worried about the panty lines but there’s actually some science behind team commando (my team):

According to board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist Jodie Horton, MD team Commando is the way to go as wearing underwear can trap more moisture and lead to itching, irritation, and possible infection.

Nobody has time for that.

But, maybe I'm wrong so let's hear from you:

P.s. as for the men here, please avoid doing this. It might hurt a little bit

Pour Some Stress On Me...

Did we really just say that (pour some stress on me)? Yes, yes we did.

Turns out there's good and bad stress.

Good Stress (eustress - you·stres) comes from things like riding a roller coaster or a first date.

Bad stress (distress) could be an unpaid credit card bill or a death in the family.

Keep your coping strategies for that bad stress because it’s unavoidable.

But enjoy the good stress

Get out of your comfort zone and boost your brain power, build resilience, and improve your motivation!

MERFRREO

Did You Know? Like Really Know…

Why is this called a Bird Dog?

Picture this, a group of hunting dogs, standing all regal-like, with their front leg up and their back leg stretched out behind them. They're like the canine version of supermodels on the runway, strutting their stuff!

Now you know the inspo behind this seemingly random name, but here are some benefits:

  • Improved Spinal & Core Stability

  • Better Hip Extension

  • Improved Shoulder Stability

  • Better Baland and Coordination

Janie, our co-founder, doesn’t listen to music while working out. That’s kinda weird, no? Pretty sure she’s the only one. This inspired us to share the top workout song on Spotify. Give it a listen:
