Green Bananas: EAT THEM!

Anyone else love bananas? My 2-year-old is a banana queen. If there's one around she'll scream "nana" until we give in. Have to lover her persistence.

Most of us know bananas are packed with potassium. Potassium is an electrolyte that helps with cramping.

But did you know their ripeness affects something called the glycemic index?

The glycemic index measures how quickly carbs raise your blood sugar levels.

If you want to keep your blood sugar in check, think about how you eat them.

Ripe nanas:

  • Higher glycemic index

  • Bigger blood sugar spike

Less ripe nanas:

  • Lower glycemic index

  • Smaller blood sugar spike

Next time you reach for a banana think about the color and how it will affect your blood sugar. Bonus points if you pair it with a healthy fat (like peanut butter).

P.S. I’m over here singing the Bananas in the Pajamas theme song. Did anyone else watch it?

Did You Know? Like Really Know…

Watermelon can help with muscle soreness. And it works even better when you eat it cold.

Watermelon contains l-Citrulline which helps your body create nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps your blood vessels relax and allows more blood to flow to your muscles.

And when more blood flows to your muscles, it brings them the energy they need to recover faster.

So get your workout in and then have a slice.

Or if you’re like me, eat the whole dang thing.
