The Best Brain Food

Do your kids have that one food that they can't get enough of?

Mine too. I mean besides the endless request for Sour Patch Kids. I'm surprised our children aren't blue (like Violet in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) from all the blueberries they eat.

It used to bother me, but not anymore because blueberries are the best brain food, and here’s why.

Packed with antioxidants and flavonoids. They help with attention, memory, and comprehension and there's even evidence that it can help prevent dementia.

But play it cool, Mom! Don't give the secret away that you're OK with them eating all the blueberries.

Don't make it complicated. Eat them fresh or frozen alone or with some yogurt. Love the idea in this recipe of freezing the yogurt.

Q: Started back up this week. I’d fallen off the wagon, you guys. I am 31 with hypertension so I need to get my shit together.

I gotta say Monday and Tuesday I did great. Eating better and less and working out. Yesterday my daughter had an early appointment so we ate out and I didn’t work out.

I hurt so bad and I have the worst stomach ache from the junk I ate yesterday. I just wanted to share because even if you think what you’re doing isn’t much or doesn’t make a difference it definitely does.

A: Good for you for getting back on track with your health goals this week! It's not always easy, but every step matters. Don't be too hard on yourself about yesterday - sometimes life happens and we indulge or miss a workout. The important thing is to just keep going and not let one setback stop you from achieving your goals. If you can't get a full workout in, shoot for a 5-minute workout. It's the act of showing up that matters.

Did You Know? Like Really Know…

Garlic and onion could help you from getting sick.

Cold season is lurking around the corner. School's started up again the weather is cooling off so we're inside more.

A recent study showed that garlic and onion helped prevent upper respiratory infections in older adults. And when they did get sick, it wasn't as bad.

This could be because of the sulfur-containing compounds found in onions and garlic. They help reduce inflammation and fight off germs.

Not sure if you wanna go and start eating raw onions and garlic just yet but it wouldn't hurt to add them to your food.

Just don't forget your breath mint!

Tidbits & Recipes:

Blueberries are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. They are particularly rich in vitamin C, which boosts the immune system and promotes skin health. Try this lemon blueberry muffin recipe.
