Quad Dominance: Why Glutes Might Feel Left Behind

Not feeling your glutes (booty) fire up during leg day?

It's pretty common for people to feel their quads more than their glutes.

Here are three reasons why:

  1. Overuse: If you're targeting your glutes too much, inflammation will prevent your muscles from firing up and doing their job. So give them a rest.

  2. Pushing into the floor wrong: Think of pushing straight down into the floor. Like, you're making a footprint and don't want to smear it. Feel the glutes?

  3. Knee pushing forward: This loads the quads more (not bad if you're trying to target them). Instead, think of hinging from your hip. Going barefoot will help with this too.

Working your quads isn’t a bad thing, and really, you should be. The goal is to activate the correct muscle for each specific exercise.

Your quads are the biggest muscle group in your body.

So yes, we need to target them too.

Here are 4 reasons you need strong quads:

  • Helps with knee pain

  • Improves balance and stability

  • Prevent low back pain

  • Improve posture

These are some of our favorite quad exercises:

  1. Wall sits

  2. Step-ups

  3. Front squats

  4. Sissy Squats

This is also a great progression, so start with the wall sits and make your way down the list.
